Construction is expected to begin this year to expand Southwest 45th Street in Lawton.

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission on Tuesday accepted an $8,319,903 bid from Allen Construction of Oklahoma City for the project, which will begin just south of Lee Boulevard and extend to Bell Avenue north of Gore Boulevard. Allen was low bidder.

The project will rebuild the eastside arterial to five lanes  two travel lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. The project also will have the city's first dedicated bike lanes, 4-foot-wide swatches on each side of the road, and a sidewalk.  The project will include drainage, grading, road surface and traffic lights.

Cole Vonfeldt, Division 7 construction engineering for the state Transportation Department, said he expects work to begin before the end of the year, possibly in November. A total of 270 days has been allocated for the work... FULL ARTICLE
