Oklahoma State University economist Russell Evans told a Tulsa Metro Chamber gathering recently that 2011 will "feel" more like an economic recovery in Oklahoma than 2010 did.
Technically speaking, 2010 was a recovery year. The national recession ended in 2009, but like a case of the flu, you can still feel a recession long after it's gone and 2010 felt more like flu than it didn't.
The national unemployment rate hovered around 10 percent and in the Tulsa area the year-end 7.7 percent unemployment rate made the Christmas season feel a lot less merry and bright.
Evans, director of the Center for Applied Economic Research at the OSU Spears School of Business, said next year things should feel different in Oklahoma.
Oil and gas activity should pick up in the state and unemployment rates should start to fall in the second half of the year, carrying over into 2012.
Overall, Evans said, 2011 looks a lot better in Oklahoma than 2010 with one major exception - state government... FULL ARTICLE
