SQ 744 is the wrong solution to education’s problems

I saw a funny bumper sticker the other day: Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?
If you’re a teacher or a parent or just consider yourself a friend of public education and you’re thinking about voting for State Question 744 because Oklahoma’s public schools are unjustifiably underfunded, you might find yourself asking just those questions in a few years.
If passed, SQ 744 mandates that the Legislature fund education at no less than the average of the surrounding states. That’s a great goal. I’ve supported it for a long time.
But I don’t support it in a vacuum, and SQ 744 is vacuous in terms of the key details of how it would be implemented. Approve it, and get ready for the handbasket ride of your life... FULL ARTICLE
