TULSA, OK -- Drivers will soon be able to once again exit westbound Interstate 44 onto Riverside Drive. The ramp change is one of two scheduled to begin Monday.
The westbound off-ramp to Peoria Avenue will close, however.
Weather permitting, there will also now be a single on-ramp from Peoria Avenue to eastbound I-44. The westbound I-44 on-ramp from Peoria is not expected to open for several months.
Drivers needing to access westbound I-44 will have to use Lewis Avenue.
In a press release the Oklahoma Department of Transportation explained that two west bound on-ramps and one westbound off-ramp were located in the short corridor between Peoria and Riverside, "causing unsafe traffic movements on I-44 and for exiting, entering and thru-traffic on the access road."
"As part of the permanent safety upgrades, there will now be a single on-ramp from Peoria Avenue and an off-ramp to Riverside Drive," the release states.
"With this improved design, there will not be a westbound on-ramp from Riverside Drive."
Both the opening of the westbound I-44 off-ramp to Riverside and the closing of the westbound I-44 off-ramp to Peoria Ave. are scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. Monday.
