Construction of SH33 west of Perkins is progressing ahead of schedule according to Joe Echelle, Resident Engineer for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in Stillwater.
“The first three miles from the Cimarron River east towards Perkins has been opened and the contractor is being paid an incentive to open the remaining section to traffic before February 2011,” Echelle told The Journal. “At current speed and progress, Duit Construction is on track to open all seven miles from the Cimarron River to Western by mid-November.”
Weather delays could make it as late as February however.
Construction to finish SH33 from Western to US177 should begin in February 2012. That portion will be a five-lane roadway including a center turn lane.
The additional lanes to make SH33 a four-lane divided highway from Western to the Cimarron River has not been programmed and is not in the 8 year construction plan... FULL ARTICLE
