The first thing Democratic governor candidate Jari Askins says she plans to do, if elected, would be to get the Legislature to focus on the tight budget.
“With the new leadership coming into the Legislature, I am committed to taking care of the budget first. Other types of bills can be filed, but they could be held until after we handle the budget,” Askins said Monday.
Askins, who is Oklahoma’s lieutenant governor, was in Muskogee for a fundraiser and will speak at the Women in Agriculture conference today at the Muskogee Civic Center. She is sandwiching her Muskogee visit between candidate forums in Tulsa that include her opponent, Republican Congresswoman Mary Fallin. The General Election is Nov. 2.
