OKLAHOMA CITY - Lt. Gov. Jari Askins may be trailing in the polls, but the Democratic gubernatorial nominee's fund-raising went surprisingly well over the past nine weeks, according to Oklahoma Ethics Commission reports filed Monday night.

Askins raised almost $1.2 million from Aug. 10 to Oct. 18 - the cutoff date for Monday's report - or about $160,000 more than the Republican gubernatorial nominee and frontrunner, U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin.

The $1.2 million does not include $350,000 that Askins contributed to her campaign during the filing period. In all, Askins has sunk $1.125 million of her personal fortune into the race.

Askins has raised a little more than $3.9 million, spent $3.3 million and has a little over $600,000 on hand.

Fallin has raised $3.8 million for her campaign. She had $269,893.07 on hand going into the last two weeks before the election.

Fallin's haul for the reporting period includes $930,185.25 from individuals and $90,975 from political action committees. It does not include at least $457,071.50 spent in her behalf by outside agencies, mostly the Republican Governors Association... FULL ARTICLE
