SHAWNEE, Okla. — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will open bids on the widening and resurfacing project of S.H 18 on June 16 and are expected to award the contract on July 5. Construction is scheduled to begin at County Road 108, north to S.H. 62 in Meeker, and is estimated to cost $9,353,204.
“The project will add shoulders to the main portions of the road,” David Meuser, ODOT spokesman, said.
“Shoulders are an important safety feature that we are lacking on a lot of highways in the state.”
Meuser said a one mile section of the 3.8 miles of road would be turned into four lanes.
“We will add shoulders up to that last mile going into Meeker,” Meuser said. “That last mile we be four lanes up to U.S. 62.”
