OKLAHOMA CITY (February 23, 2010) – Legislation to give preference in state bidding to local companies when all other factors are equal was approved by a state House committee today.
House Bill 2910, by state Rep. Danny Morgan, would require the Department of Central Services to give preference to local companies as a "tiebreaker" during the bidding process.
"If a local, Oklahoma business provides a good or service comparable to an out-of-state vendor at a good price, I believe the state should support the local business every time," said Morgan, a Prague Democrat who is also leader of the House Democratic Caucus.
Under House Bill 2910, local businesses would be given preference if the price, fitness, availability and quality of the goods or services are otherwise equal to those provided by an out-of-state vendor...
