Bill’s delay could impact local projects (OPINION)

— Major road and bridge projects are usually funded through federal gasoline taxes passed through state highway departments. A good example of that is the Robinson Street underpass, the widening of Interstate 35 from Indian Hills Road to Main Street or the upgrade of State Highway 9.

Oklahoma has more than 2,700 active road and bridge projects prioritized by the state and funded by the federal government. It’s all tied up in the federal Highway Bill yet to be approved by Congress.

Contractors and state transportation officials are fearing a debt-limit style showdown on the highway bill, which has been extended seven times since it expired in 2009. It is set to expire at the end of this month... FULL ARTICLE
