WASHINGTON — State Sen. Jim Wilson, who was counting on a voter backlash to fund his primary challenge to Democratic U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, reported raising $28,859 since announcing his candidacy last month.
According to his campaign's latest report to the Federal Election Commission, Wilson ended the preprimary period with $17,947.
Boren continued to enjoy the benefit of incumbency.
His campaign reported contributions of $231,398 during the past three months with $110,273 of that coming from special interest political action committees.
Boren's campaign ended the period with $1.3 million cash on hand.
Wilson, D-Tahlequah, conceded that his late entry into the race did not allow his campaign enough time to take advantage of what backlash there may be against the incumbent who voted against health-care reform.
"That's out there to some degree,'' he said Friday.
Still, Wilson said he is not sure he would have changed the timing of his unusual challenge to a member of his own party and the only Democrat in the state's seven-member congressional delegation... FULL ARTICLE
