Braking bad: Put pedal to metal against bad drivers (EDITORIAL)

Lawmakers whiffed when given a chance this year to reduce traffic accidents with a ban on driving while texting. Restrictions were limited to certain new drivers.

The state has whiffed before in attempts to crack down on rude and aggressive drivers, with a lukewarm response and legislative challenges to an unmarked patrol car program called RAAID (Reduction of Accidents and Aggressive and Inconsiderate Drivers). That was in the late 1990s, when Oklahoma County was experiencing a huge increase in accidents caused by motorists following too closely.

We'll see if legislators continue to ignore what we see as an epidemic of bad drivers, including red-light runners, chronic tailgaters and lane changers and folks who don't seem to know every vehicle has turn signals... FULL ARTICLE
