NORMAN — The ornate bridge straddling Interstate 35 at Rock Creek Road is behind schedule but should finally open by the first week of September, a city official says.
Public Works Director Shawn O’Leary said Monday that contractors working on the project have told the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, who is partially funding the overpass work, that they should be done by next Friday.
And while the project may be behind schedule, O’Leary said it’s still under budget.
“And that’s a good thing,” he said. “Right now, we’re just putting the final touches on everything.”
O’Leary said an official announcement from the city should come any day.
“Probably the first week of September, there will be some kind of ribbon-cutting ceremony ... but that’s all being worked out now,” he said. “And we think what the contractor is telling us (about being done Aug. 26) is pretty sure, so the announcement should be coming soon.” FULL ARTICLE
