A portion of U.S. 64 Highway between Vian and Gore will be closed for over three months for bridge repairs, Steve Carter, District 2 County Commissioner, announced Monday.
Carter announced the closing at the commission meeting Monday.
Carter explained the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has awarded a contract to repair the bridges over the Illinois River and over Deep Branch Creek, a tributary to the river.
“The highway will be totally closed, beginning Nov. 28, for the 100 days of the contract,” Carter said.
Those traveling between Gore and Vian should take a detour around the bridges by taking Interstate 40, Carter said.
He said the contract is to rehabilitate the bridges, and ODOT has offered an incentive if the project is completed earlier.
David Meuser, ODOT spokesman, said last week the contract for the bridge rehabilitation was awarded in October to Wildcat Construction Co. Inc of Topeka, Kan., for $2,939,577.54, which was the low bid... FULL ARTICLE
