Budget talks are back on track after a "minor hiccup” over the issue of a hospital provider fee, House Speaker Chris Benge said Thursday.
"We’re working hard,” said Benge, R-Tulsa.
Benge and Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City, met Thursday with Democratic Gov. Brad Henry on ways to deal with a $1.2 billion shortfall for the 2011 fiscal year, which begins July 1. The talks are not public, with details usually not released until a deal is reached.
Legislators have two weeks remaining in this year’s session to come up with a $5.4 billion budget. They must adjourn by May 28. It takes at least three legislative days to get a budget package approved through both chambers... FULL ARTICLE
