Calera gets new traffic lights (ARTICLE & VIDEO)

The Town of Calera has seen it's fair share of traffic accidents, but that all could change thanks to two new traffic lights.

"Took them long enough to get it here" Calera resident John Hermanns said.

For the little town of Calera, adding traffic lights at it's two main intersections has been a long time coming.

"It's been enough to draw concerns throughout the state as far as the powers that be in Oklahoma City who recognize statistics" said Calera Chief Don Hyde.

The stretch of highway 69 that runs through Calera has been a problem for drivers for years. And with a steady increase in Semi traffic during that time it has only gotten worse. A study by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation showed that over 150 accidents were reported between January 2007 and december 2009. Five of which were fatalities. A reality that Calera Police Chief Don Hyde knows all to well.
