OKLAHOMA CITY — The state Election Board is bracing for a record number of candidates to file for office next week.
Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said Wednesday that he expects 600 people to file for offices ranging from governor and member of Congress to state House and Senate seats and district attorney posts. However, the number could be higher.
If 600 candidates file, it will be "a modern record in the last 10 years," he said.
In 2006, a comparable year because it had a gubernatorial election, 594 people filed for office, according to information from the Election Board.
Ziriax said he expects most candidates to file Monday, the first day of the three-day filing period. In 2006, about 70 percent of those seeking office signed up on the first day... FULL ARTICLE
