Local bid preference has hazards

Mayor Dewey Bartlett wants an ordinance that would allow the city to give bidding advantages to local companies.
It would be a break from the long-held standard that government should award contracts to the lowest and best bidders, and a foot in the door for brother-in-law deals, but it's worth considering.
The state Legislature — with encouragement from Bartlett and his top aide, Terry Simonson — recently passed a measure that would allow state agencies to give preference to Oklahoma companies.
