Council to consider traffic light change at Court, Main

An improved traffic signal could help traffic flow more easily at Court and Main Streets, city officials say.
Improving the Main/Court signal was listed among nine priority projects City Council members hope to tackle in the 2012 Fiscal Year. The Public Works Committee will review the projects at its meeting Tuesday. Council members, meeting as the Muskogee Finance Committee, weeded through 23 proposed projects at their April 19 meeting. Nine proposals received two or more votes.
The intersection is the west landing of the Court Street viaduct, which gets congested when trains block traffic on Okmulgee Avenue, Martin Luther King Street and Broadway.
“Everyone is trying to go over the viaduct,” City Manager Greg Buckley said. “It seems like we get a couple of trains every day.”
An Oklahoma Department of Transportation traffic count said more than 16,000 vehicles on Main Street pass the Court Street intersection and more than 7,500 cross the viaduct in a 24-hour period... FULL ARTICLE
