NORMAN — A section of Franklin Road just east of Flood Avenue is moving south.
Cleveland County commissioners approved a resolution Monday calling for realigning Franklin Road between 24th Avenue NW and U.S. 77, which is also Flood Avenue. The plan had been in the works for months as a 542-bed county jail is being constructed in the area.
Assistant District Attorney David Batton said in August that moving the road is expected to enhance traffic safety while helping the county avoid easement issues during construction.
He said Monday the latest resolution is a final formality with the city of Norman. Franklin Road is both a city street and a county section line road, so the plan needed court authorization followed by city and county approval...
