A measure that would create a closing fund for the state to use to attract businesses has advanced in the state Senate, receiving overwhelming support after a little tweaking.
The bill wisely was amended to prevent participating companies from using any closing fund money as independent expenditures in campaigns.
We understand the concern expressed by Sen. Jim Wilson, D-Tahlequah, that the fund appears to be little more than corporate welfare. But there is a mousehole for lawmakers. If they ever are displeased with how the fund would be used by prospective businesses they could refuse to appropriate any money to the fund... FULL ARTICLE
