The Oklahoma Department of Transportation awarded a contract Monday for groundwork for the extension of the Gilcrease Expressway west from the L.L. Tisdale Parkway to North 41st West Avenue in Osage County.
The $13 million project will prepare nearly three-quarters of a mile of land for the planned road.
The contractors will clear and grade the surface, pave the intersection of Osage Drive and the Gilcrease Expressway, install a traffic signal at the L.L. Tisdale Parkway and the Gilcrease Expressway, and build two drainage ponds and box culverts along the planned extension.
"They have to create the way for the road," said Lara Christiansen, a spokeswoman for the city of Tulsa.
The contractors likely will convert the tops of the culverts into two-lane bridges, she said...
