Construction of the SandRidge offices is an indicator Alva and Woods County are experiencing growth from an oil boom and, soon, the Avard Rail Park. Officials are working on plans to deal with the increase in heavy truck traffic and the toll on roads, streets and bridges while also dealing with truck speeding and truck parking problems.
For decades, Woods County Commissioners struggled with stagnant or negative growth. Now they’re facing the opposite: dealing with the problems of an oil boom including the increase in size and volume of truck traffic, the need for bridge replacements, and preparing for the Avard Rail Project now getting underway.
Those issues dominated Thursday’s agenda for the end of the month meeting of the commission. Present were all three members: Chairman Clint Strawn, Randy McMurphy and Mike Goucher along with County Clerk Pam Inman.
Truck problems
Commissioners voted a 25 mph speed limit for the first half mile north of US64 on CR470 along the east side of the Nelson Addition two miles east of the US281/US64 junction. Residents in the area reported they were concerned over speeding tank trucks rattling dishes in nearby homes... FULL ARTICLE
