The Creek Turnpike, which loops southeast Tulsa from the Turner Turnpike to the Will Rogers Turnpike, was a lightning rod for controversy as its construction loomed back in the mid-1990s

Some opponents predicted it would destroy residential neighborhoods and drive down property values. Others said there wasn't enough traffic to justify building it.

As is often the case with such projects, the dire warnings and fears proved to be unfounded.

The Creek Turnpike did not turn out to be an eyesore or nuisance. It was the first highway in the area to include barriers to prevent traffic noise from intruding on neighborhoods. It was beautifully landscaped with hundreds of trees. And the easy access it provided southeast Tulsa to the rest of town probably increased, not hurt, property values... FULL ARTICLE
