Crumbling down: Americans cross structurally deficient bridges 178 million times every day

With more than 47,000 bridges considered structurally deficient, it would take 80 years to rehabilitate the nation’s crumbling bridges, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association.

Roadways across the United States are in such critical condition, President Donald Trump’s 2020 budget proposal calls for an aggressive approach to raising the standard.

In his State of the Union address in February, Trump said funding bridges is “not an option. This is a necessity.”

More recently, Trump agreed to work with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) on a $2 trillion plan to fund the nation's infrastructure, including bridges, though it's unclear if a deal will be made... FULL ARTICLE
