WASHINGTON - Oklahoma would lose more than a third of its highway funding under a proposal expected in the House, according to figures provided Wednesday by U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe.
Those figures show the state's funding would be slashed from $601.56 million to $383.54 million.
A key player on transportation issues in Congress, Inhofe warned that type of loss would be devastating to the state's highway program.
"It would be," the Oklahoma Republican said. "It looks like that's the best we can do."
Inhofe remained pessimistic about the chances of a Senate approach that would retain current funding levels.
"We are not going to do anything with a bill with a $12 billion hole in it," Inhofe said.
He made his comments following a press conference by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, who also released state-specific figures on the impact of the House approach... FULL ARTICLE
