TAHLEQUAH — Tahlequah moved a step closer Tuesday to getting a traffic light at what may be the city’s most dangerous intersection.
State Rep. Mike Brown said the project has a scheduled Sept. 15 bid opening with the Oklahoma Transportation Commission. He said the commission will vote in October on whether to fund the project. The new lights are expected to be installed by the end of April 2012, Brown said.
“Tahlequah has long needed a traffic light at the State Highway 51-West Fourth Street intersection,” Brown, D-Tahlequah, said in a press release. “The Department of Transportation will continue to inform me of the progress on the project.”
Mayor Jason Nichols said the light is long overdue. Tahlequah police officers have investigated several crashes with either fatal or serious injuries at the location... FULL ARTICLE
