As the Interstate 40 Crosstown Expressway is relocated south, the current highway is scheduled to be torn down and replaced with a grand boulevard. Unlike the highway relocation, the boulevard wasn't funded in the state Transportation Department's eight-year work plan — until now.
Officials recently announced the boulevard, expected to cost about $80 million, has been funded. Mayor Mick Cornett said it gives the city reason to be optimistic that the boulevard can be finished as planned in 2014.
"I never was overly concerned that it wouldn't be funded,” Cornett said. "But it's been kind of a lingering issue ever since I've been mayor. It's nice to see it on paper and resolved.” FULL ARTICLE
