The Board of Directors of the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce voted to oppose SQ 744 – one of 11 statewide ballot initiatives up for vote on Nov. 2 – which would require Oklahoma to match the regional average in per-pupil funding.
“We acknowledge we need more money for education, but we feel strongly that SQ 744 is not the long-term solution to getting more money into the classroom,” said Tim Deimund, chairman of 2010 Edmond Chamber Board of Directors. “We were fearful that there would be tax increases or a loss of services in other critical areas if the state question passed.” FULL ARTICLE
