EDMOND — A commercial development along Interstate 35 will proceed despite two city council members’ rally for more access to Danforth Road.
Council members Wayne Page and Elizabeth Waner continue to vote against plans for Summit North, east of I-35 and at the north end of Saints Way. Still, the final plat for the development was approved in a vote of 3-2.
A year ago, Page, Waner and former Mayor Dan O’Neil turned down the plat because there was no access to Danforth Road, leaving only one access point.
The planning commission vote in June was 4-1 to approve. Planning Commissioner Lydia Lee voted against the plat because she said Page and Waner wanted access to Danforth Road.
Developer Garland Bell has submitted since last year a traffic study indicating that with the traffic light on Second Street, access for all the proposed uses in the Summit can be accommodated from the one access point at Saints Way and Second Street.
Todd McKinnis, attorney for the developer, said, "Your expert and our expert say it is acceptable. I don’t know what else to do.”
