EDMOND — Creative and alternative ways to fund a new public safety center and citywide traffic system are being discussed by a committee appointed to figure out a plan Edmond voters would approve.
Mayor Patrice Douglas said she doesn't want to raise the city's sales tax, so she is heading a committee to look at different ways to come up with money for two projects she calls priorities.
The public safety center would house police headquarters, the 911 communication center and emergency operations.
The traffic system, called an intelligent transportation system, uses modern communications, field devices, computers and software to improve safety and mobility, enhance security and increase efficiency, officials said.
Committee members are talking about packaging the two projects because the operational center for the traffic system would be housed in the public safety center. The system is estimated to cost $7 million... FULL ARTICLE
