EDMOND — A ceremony marking the completion of the $30 million improvement project on Broadway Extension at Memorial Road and Kelley Avenue will be at 2 p.m. today.

The project realigned Kelley Avenue in Oklahoma City into a continuous street with Kelly Avenue in Edmond. The project also widened Broadway Extension and reconstructed and built new ramps, bridges and frontage roads at Kelley Avenue and Memorial Road.

Ceremony location
The dedication will be on the southbound Kelley Avenue ramp to southbound Broadway Extension. In case of rain, the ceremony will move indoors to the showroom of Jackie Cooper BMW, just north of the dedication site.

Terri Angier, state Transportation Department spokeswoman, said crews are making final preparations for the opening of Kelley Avenue after the ceremony at 3 p.m., Angier said.

Southbound Kelley Avenue between the railroad tracks south of 33rd Street and the southbound Broadway Extension on-ramp from Kelley Avenue will be closed from noon to 3 p.m.

Angier said because the project was completed two months ahead of schedule, the project’s main contractor, Allen Construction, will receive a bonus.

The company finished 118 days ahead of the maximum 500 days allowed.

"It’s about $1.5 million, and we think it’s worth every penny because they really have moved quickly with the businesses in that area, and we couldn’t be more happy,” Angier said.

Project began in 2008
When construction began in July 2008, Broadway Extension was narrowed to two lanes in each direction between N 122 Street and Memorial Road.

Memorial Road had one lane open in each direction at Broadway Extension and the off and on ramps to Memorial Road and Broadway were closed.

The project realigned Kelley Avenue in Oklahoma City into a continuous street with Kelly Avenue in Edmond. The project also widened Broadway Extension and reconstructed and built new ramps, bridges and frontage roads at Kelley Avenue and Memorial Road.

The dedication ceremony will be on the southbound Kelley Avenue ramp to southbound Broadway Extension.

In case of rain, the ceremony will move indoors to the showroom of Jackie Cooper BMW just north of the dedication site.
