U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin’s decision to run for governor was largely a matter of mathematics, she said Monday.
“As a governor, I’ll be one of 50,” the Fifth District congresswoman told the After Five Republican Women’s Group. “Right now I’m one of 435 members of Congress, and I can tell you it’s very frustrating.
“Governors have brought forth some of the best ideas when it comes to health-care reform, education reform, welfare reform. It’s been the governors that’s led those initiatives.”
The GOP front-runner and early general election favorite said her 16 years in state government and three years in Congress make her uniquely qualified to be the state’s next governor.
“I have been in office long enough,” she said. “I’ve been through three (economic) cycles of boom and bust. … I’ve been involved in state agencies when they’ve had to cut budgets...
