All options — including agency cuts and savings through reducing duplication and increasing efficiencies — will be considered when dealing with an estimated $226 million budget hole in the next fiscal year, Gov.-elect Mary Fallin says.
The Republican, who will prepare her executive budget from revenue estimates approved by a state board last week, said she isn't planning on increased fees or so-called revenue enhancements to deal with the shortfall.
“First of all, $226 million is still a large budget hole and it is one that I don't think should be plugged with any type of budgetary gimmicks or accounting tricks,” said Fallin, who will be sworn in as governor Jan. 10.
“The best way to address the budget shortfall is to get very serious about government modernization and making government smaller, smarter and more efficient.
“It's very important we do everything we can to look at eliminating waste or duplication in state government and continue to right-size government to make it more efficient and effective,” she said... FULL ARTICLE
