Funding crunch delays county road projects

The state legislature’s diversion of $230 million in funds from county roads and bridges over the previous two years is having an impact on Washington County’s ability to complete planned construction work in a timely fashion, District 1 County Commissioner Mitch Antle said Tuesday

During a meeting of the Washington County Commissioners, county officials heard an update on the eight-year transportation plan for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation from Aaron Peck of Guy Engineering.

Because of the legislature’s continued transferring of County Improvements for Roads and Bridges, or CIRB, funds to fill ongoing budget holes, Antle said he has been forced to delay planned projects in the northern part of the county.

One project is rehabilitation and reconstruction of West 1300 Road, which Antle said he has delayed because of the uncertainty of funding... FULL ARTICLE
