GOP picks up longtime Dem seats

The red tide that swept through Oklahoma on Tuesday helped lift Tulsa-area Republicans to victory in two open seats long held by Democrats.

Porter businesswoman Kim David easily defeated former Wagoner Public Schools Superintendent Janice Aldridge in Senate District 18, which stretches from east Tulsa through Wagoner and north to Grand Lake.

The GOP also picked up House District 66, encompassing downtown Tulsa, the Swan Lake, Maple Ridge, Crosbie Heights and Owen Park neighborhoods and Sand Springs north of the Arkansas River. There, Sand Springs School Board President Jadine Nollan narrowly defeated 21-year-old Eli Potts.

"I could not be more thrilled," she said. "It has really been a roller coaster. I was very realistic going into today."

Nollan said she will do her best to represent everyone in one of the state's most diverse districts.
