Gov. Brad Henry today will urge lawmakers to be cautious when making budget cuts and will challenge them to lead Oklahoma out of its worst budget crisis in history.
"We need to make very careful targeted, surgical cuts rather than just whack every program across the board,” said Henry, who will deliver his final State of the State message today to start this year’s legislative session.
Henry, who is serving his eighth and final year as governor, will provide details of his 2011 fiscal year executive budget in his message to a joint session of the Legislature.
The state’s fiscal situation will be the overriding concern in Henry’s message. His talk to members of the Republican-controlled Legislature should last about 30 minutes...
