Gov. Kevin Stitt stresses continued investment in education, efficient government in first State of the State speech

OKLAHOMA CITY — In his first State of the State address, Gov. Kevin Stitt on Monday asked Oklahomans to help him reimagine education, the criminal justice system and state government.

“Today, as I present my first budget, I ask you to join me in reimagining,” Stitt said during his 32-minute address to a joint legislative session assembled in the House chamber.

The House gallery, where his family watched, was standing room only as the new governor was interrupted by applause more than two dozen times.

Stitt proposed a $1,200 teacher pay raise to bring the state to the top of region. He also backed a $5 million recruitment program to attract additional educators... FULL ARTICLE
