Gov. Mary Fallin says her first State of the State message to legislators will reflect the message she picked up from voters in her win last fall — cut wasteful governmental spending.
“The people of Oklahoma certainly sent a message during the election cycle that they want us to hold down spending and that we can't grow government faster than our economy grows,” Fallin said. “If we do that, our economy will be in trouble.”
Fallin, the state's first female governor and just the fourth Republican governor in the state's 103 year history, will use her speech to let legislators know her goals for this legislative session, which starts today. Her speech, expected to last 30 to 40 minutes, will focus on her main priority of improving the state's business climate to create jobs and dealing with a significant revenue shortfall for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts July 1.
