HOBART, Okla. — An emergency management official says much of a grass fire that forced the evacuation of two church camps and closed two state highways near Hobart had been extinguished Thursday.

Most of the fire on Quartz Mountain was out by late Thursday morning and firefighters are monitoring the area, according to Kiowa County Emergency Management Director Bill Orebaugh.

Orebaugh said National Guard helicopters also would be dropping water on the mountain in an effort to control the hot spots and prevent another flare up of the flames. He said no injuries were reported and that the only damage was to an unoccupied cabin.

"Right now, I don't think there's any significant damage, most of the fire is on rock and mountain. It's not hurting anything burning that rock." FULL ARTICLE
