If you can't beat 'em, bash 'em.
That seems to be the strategy among the folks at Yes on 744, a group working for passage of State Question 744. On the ballot in November, SQ 744 would require that per-pupil funding for common education in Oklahoma be equal to the regional average. As Yes on 744 says on its website, a yes vote "will help ensure that Oklahoma's children receive the high quality education they deserve."
But it also will mean huge problems for the state budget, because bumping education funding to that degree will require taking money from other agencies or raising taxes. David Blatt with the Oklahoma Policy Institute is the latest to make that point, doing so in a position paper last week that said SQ 744 was the wrong solution... FULL ARTICLE
