Contractors for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will begin demolishing the Interstate 44 bridge over Harvard Avenue on Friday as part of a $48 million project to improve traffic around the junction.
Because of the demolition, ODOT will close Harvard at the interstate from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. I-44 will remain open.
"We certainly realize that it's going to be an inconvenience to have all of Harvard closed down this weekend,"
ODOT spokeswoman Kenna Mitchell said, adding that contractors will remove I-44's eastbound and westbound bridges simultaneously, preventing ODOT from having to close the junction for a second weekend.
ODOT will divert southbound traffic on Harvard to the frontage road to Lewis Avenue. It will divert northbound traffic on Harvard to 51st Street in either direction.
