Oklahoma would receive millions for highway projects under the plan

WASHINGTON — The House cleared a bill Thursday that will boost road funding in Oklahoma and other states and offer tax breaks to businesses that hire the unemployed.
Rep. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee, was the only Oklahoman in the House to vote for the bill, which will extend federal highway programs through the end of the year and restore road funding to the level it was at before monthly cuts took effect last October. The bill passed by a vote of 217 to 201, with most Republicans in opposition.
Congress has been keeping highway departments going through a series of short-term extensions, but those extensions have meant less money.
In addition, the bill approved has an additional $20 billion for transportation programs that Democrats contend will create thousands of new jobs... FULL ARTICLE
