OKLAHOMA CITY – Lawmakers working on closing a hole in this year’s state budget also took aim Thursday at sex offenders and approved a move of the state medical examiner’s office to Edmond.
The House of Representatives passed a series of budget bills designed to implement an agreement between the governor and legislative leaders that would help ease cuts for education, health care, public safety and prisons.
The bills also tap federal stimulus money and drain nearly $450 million from the state’s constitutional Rainy Day fund, about half of that for use on the budget year that ends June 30.
Another $223 million remains available for use on next year’s budget, where lawmakers will have about $1.2 billion less to spend than they did last year. The deal leaves about $150 million in the reserve fund...
