Gilcrease toll-road study approved

Tulsa's transportation system took a huge step forward Wednesday with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority's approval of a study on building the Gilcrease Expressway as a toll road.
The segment under study, basically the northwestern and southwestern portions of the city's outer loop, would, if constructed, complete the city's decades-old highway transportation plan.
The $767,100 study should be completed by next fall.
Specifically, the stretch under consideration begins at the current terminus of the L.L. Tisdale Expressway in north Tulsa and loops through northwest Tulsa to U.S. 64, and then south through southwest Tulsa to connect with Interstate 44.
The lack of this vital link in the city's outer loop system has been one factor in the slow economic growth of areas northwest and west of the city.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett, who has made completion of the Gilcrease a top priority, called the approval of the study "great news." FULL ARTICLE
