Despite Friday's groundbreaking for the $64 million Interstate 244 bridge project over the Arkansas River, it will be several weeks until motorists see major construction in the area.
But once work begins on the westbound bridge, it should be impressive.
Gone will be the 3,300-foot-long, 44-year-old bridge that, along with its neighboring eastbound span, costs the state about $1 million in maintenance each year.
In its place will grow a first of its kind for Oklahoma - a double-decker span complete with a top deck to carry vehicular traffic and a bottom deck for pedestrian and rail traffic... FULL ARTICLE
