EDMOND
— Dirt work is expected to begin by early summer for the first of two
multi-story office buildings at Interstate 35 and Covell Road. This is
the first phase of a development that could spread to three corners of
the intersection.
Covell I-35 Developers, a local group, are behind the project
originally proposed as a mix-use project that was to include retail,
entertainment and offices.
Original plans were to start on the retail portion, but the economic
downturn forced developers to focus on building the offices first, said
Todd McKinnis, attorney for Covell I-35 Developers.
No plans for utilities
Work is expected to begin on both buildings if the first one is close to being fully leased, he said.
The offices will be built on the northeast corner of the intersection. Each building is expected to be about 40,000 square feet.
"We are in the final stages of finishing up the plans,” McKinnis said. "There is a demand for office space in Edmond.”
In the meantime, developers are working with city officials to get
water from Sooner Road to the east side of Interstate 35, McKinnis
said. City officials do not have the money or plans to provide the
residents in east Edmond with utilities.
