MARY Fallin has passed this way before. In a sense, she paved the way for the woman she'll face in the governor's race on Nov. 2.
Fallin was the first Republican and first female to be lieutenant governor and only the second woman to serve in Oklahoma's congressional delegation. Jari Askins succeeded Fallin as lieutenant governor.
Askins and Fallin will now compete to be the first woman to head state government.
Fallin's victory Tuesday was no surprise, despite having three Republican opponents. Askins' victory was a surprise. The favorite was Attorney General Drew Edmondson, who not only had oodles of name recognition (his father was a congressman, his uncle a governor), but he hails from the "right" part of Oklahoma to win a statewide election...
