NORMAN — State Transportation Department officials Wednesday unveiled the preferred design plan for widening Interstate 35 through Norman from just north of Main Street south to the Canadian River bridge.
The design features what the department calls “single-point urban interchanges” at Main Street and Lindsey Street with a partial cloverleaf at State Highway 9E.
Single-point urban interchanges are built around three-way traffic signals above I-35, which are designed to improve traffic flow for drivers getting on, off and through Main Street at the interstate.
The project includes widening I-35 to six lanes with auxiliary lanes between Main and Lindsey for the on-off ramps.
