Oklahoma’s common education is in need of more funding, but State Question 744 is not the answer, the leaders of the Jenks Chamber of Commerce say.
The chamber’s board of directors approved a resolution last week opposing State Question 744, which, if passed Nov. 2, would mandate that per-pupil spending in Oklahoma be equal to the regional average.
“We felt the need for the Chamber to come out against this well-intentioned question to point out the question’s flaws,” said Dave Fling, the chairman of the Chamber’s board of directors. “The resolution, while opposing SQ 744, emphasizes the importance of funding common education at an adequate level.”
Fling added that the lack of accountability and a funding mechanism are fatal flaws in 744.
